I once had a marketing and self-promotion guru tell me that I was making a huge mistake on this web site by "giving the store away".

I told her that it wasn't a mistake - it was my goal. I remember times when I was hungry for information about yoga, but had little access to teachers or could not afford what was available.

I remember how curious I was when I began practicing yoga, learning from books, and what it was like to be told by the first teacher I approached that I was too young to take yoga seriously, so she would not let me attend her class.

I also remember how eager and excited I was when I began teaching yoga, and how few resources there were for yoga teachers at the time. I couldn't afford expensive yoga retreats and workshops, and I wanted fresh teaching inspiration to supplement my own practice and teacher training.

This web site is my offering to yoga students and teachers who want encouragement and inspiration for their personal practice and teaching. It is my goal to regularly provide fresh perspectives, new information, and the constant reminder that yoga practice has to potential to change your life. A writing teacher once told me to write the books I wanted to read, but couldn't find. This site is the site I would have loved to find as beginning yoga student or new yoga teacher.

All of the articles on this site are free to access, and most of the articles on this site are free to reproduce (i.e., to give to students) or reprint (i.e., on your web site). There is no advertising on this site because I don't think you need to buy anything special to practice yoga. Forget the fancy lifestyle accessories. Just close your eyes and breathe.

If you would like to support this site and the Open Mind Open Body Newsletter, you can make an online donation:

I also am beginning  a new project on this web site and in my teaching, called A Network of Compassion and Support. As my online and in-person yoga communities expand, I am moved by the support we can offer each other, and our common interest in making a difference in the world. I want to help myself and others experience both the connection of close personal support and a connection to a broader effort for healing, peace, and support in the world.

Students who attend my yoga classes and workshops will have the opportunity to chose organizations that I donate a portion of the fees for each class/workshop to. Online, I am dedicating specific projects (i.e. my teacher training materials or online classes) to specific organizations, so that every purchase includes a donation. In this way, the act of staying connected to your yoga community will also be a way of making a difference to something that matters to you. If you have a suggestion for a non-profit organization, please email me.
