FEATURES

Yoga Research

My monthly review of recently published, peer-reviewed articles about yoga and other mind-body practices. This month, summaries of four new studies:

1. Yoga and pranayama help overweight teens lose weight.
2. Stress management: a randomized study of cognitive behavioural therapy and yoga.
3. The effectiveness of body-oriented methods of therapy in the treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD): results of a controlled pilot study.
4. Using self-report assessment methods to explore facets of mindfulness.

Ideas for Your Yoga Practice

Inspiration for yoga students and teachers.

This month:  "What do you do when difficult emotions come up during yoga practice?" An email exchange between a student and myself that brought both of us to tears - and reminds yoga teachers why we teach yoga in the first place.

Take A Deep Breath

Breathing and meditation practices to awaken compassion, awareness, and healing.

This month: A Breath Visualization. Bring an awareness to the spine that will make it easier to find a natural alignment and energy in any yoga pose.
