Support for Yoga Service and Teacher Training

 

Are you interested in teaching yoga to underserved populations? Would you like to contribute to yoga service projects, or receive funding and assistance to begin your own?

 

The following organizations offer grants to yoga teachers, and support for developing a yoga service project. They also also welcome donations.

 

TeraMundi World Wellness

 

TeraMundi World Wellness (founded by Joseph LePage of Integrative Yoga Therapy) welcomes grant proposals from yoga teachers. Funded programs include yoga for depression, weight management, breast cancer survivorship, prison projects, Alzheimers, the deaf, the blind, inner city children's camps, domestic violence, and public school projects. Support includes funds for teacher salary, transportation, props & supplies, etc. Contact Maria Mendola at mariaalive @ aol.com for details.

 

Satya Foundation

 

The mission of the Satya Foundation is "to promote opportunities for children to have an experience of yoga and healthy living through need-based scholarships throughout the world." The foundation takes applications for new organizations and projects and reviews proposals bi-annually. Email foundation @ satyajewelry.com or visit www.satyajewelry.com for more information.

 

Kripalu Teaching for Diversity Program

 

The Kripalu Teaching for Diversity Program provides grants to members of the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association (KYTA) and the International Association of Black Yoga Teachers (IABYT) for their efforts in teaching yoga to diverse populations such as ethnic minorities and those socially, economically, or physically challenged. Grant application instructions are available at the Teaching for Diversity web site.

 

Iyengar Yoga Teacher Grants

 

IyengarYoga.org provides funding for certified Iyengar teachers to teach classes to undeserved populations. Funded projects include yoga classes for children, HIV/AIDS, and Parkinsons' disease. The application form is available online. You can also sponsor specific projects.

 

 

Yoga for Kids

 

YogaEd offers free 2-day to 7-day teacher trainings (in Los Angeles) and a paid stipend ($200-600) to classroom teachers, PE teachers, and already certified/registered yoga teachers who agree to teach the YogaEd program in their hometowns for 3 months. Teacher Training Scholarships

 

Yoga basics awards $300-$600 teacher training scholarships on a competitive basis, but only members of its online community may apply. For more info, visit www.yogabasics.com and scroll down the home page. Scholarship recipients must be living in the U.S. and attend a Yoga Alliance registered training program in the U.S.
