The International Association of Yoga Therapists:

An Organization for All Yoga Professionals

I hold the position of Editor-in-Chief for all of the publications produced by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. I wanted to let you know about this organization, and encourage you to learn more about becoming a member.

IAYT supports all Yoga teachers, Yoga therapists, researchers, and healthcare professionals who use Yoga in their practice. Members come from a wide variety of trainings and traditions.

Your membership includes the following professional benefits:

  • Inclusion in IAYT’s online professional directory, with your own in-depth professional profile.

  • Subscription to the International Journal of Yoga Therapy, the only professional and scientific journal dedicated to Yoga as a healing practice.

  • Subscription to IAYT’s newsletter, full of practical ideas for yoga therapy and teaching.

  • Access to IAYT’s members-only online features, including back issues of the IAYT newsletter and summaries of the latest Yoga research and news.

  • The opportunity to join IAYT’s many online networking groups.

Your membership also supports IAYT’s mission of establishing Yoga as a recognized and respected therapy, including:

  • Public education about Yoga.

  •  Representing your interests in the development of training standards for Yoga professionals.

  •  A unified voice representing Yoga professionals in public policy decisions and meetings.

In recent months, IAYT has supported a number of important actions in the Yoga community:

  • IAYT sent representatives to the June 2005 National Education Dialogue on Complementary and Alternative Medicine, established "to create the common ground in healthcare education which will advance integrated health care."

  • IAYT commissioned a legal opinion, published in the upcoming issue of the International Journal of Yoga Therapy, that supports Yoga as a qualified medical expense.

  • IAYT commissioned an article on Yoga for osteoporosis, which will be published in IJYT and distributed freely as a public service.

Your membership is an affordable way to support your own work and continuing education, while connecting to the growing community of Yoga professionals.
