Students
who attend my yoga classes and workshops will have the opportunity to
chose organizations that I donate a portion of the fees for each
class/workshop to. Online, I am dedicating specific projects (i.e. my
teacher training materials or online
classes) to specific organizations, and every purchase from the
Open Mind Open Body store
includes a donation of 20% of the total cost. In this way, the act of
staying connected to your yoga community and deepening your yoga practice will also be a way of making a
difference to something that matters to you. If you have a suggestion for
a non-profit organization, please email me. Contact:
kelly @ openmindbody.com The
following is a partial list of organizations I contribute to.
SEVA
Foundation - Compassion in Action
Building
partnerships to respond to locally defined problems with culturally
sustainable solutions throughout the world - especially working with
Native American populations in the U.S., and throughout Southeast Asia and
Africa. Living Compassion is creating an international, grassroots center for peace in Assisi, Italy, where teachings, practices and stories of peace from all cultures and traditions will be presented and taught. Also, Living Compassion provides food, shelter, clothing, micro-loans, and school supplies to communities in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The
HSUS is dedicated to creating a world where our relationship with animals
is guided by compassion. We seek a truly humane society in which animals
are respected for their intrinsic value, and where the human-animal bond
is strong.
Oprah's
Angel Network seeks to support and fund organizations and individuals
dedicated to assisting people with basic human needs, regaining dignity,
and with educational initiatives. Organizations that encourage
participants to return their gifts through social service are often
recognized. 100% of donations go directly to services. As
the world's premier conservation organization, WWF is working around the
world to protect endangered wildlife, preserve wild lands and address
global threats and challenges. Girl
Venture
(A local San Francisco Bay Area program) We
are committed to helping girls sustain the clarity, voice and
self-confidence that they risk losing during the difficult transition to
adolescence. Our programs (including outdoor adventure and creative arts)
are designed to help each girl regain and sustain her "true
self" by developing and expressing her strengths. American
Red Cross Disaster Relief Red
Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency
disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross
provides shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address
basic human needs. Doctors
Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international
independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid
to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made
disasters, and exclusion from health care in nearly 70 countries.
The Association for Nurturing the Development of Orphaned Russian Children By providing direct care in Russian orphanages, volunteers will help infants grow into healthy children and prepare them for a bright future with their adoptive families.
