about this site

After many years of monthly emails, I have decided to stop producing Open Mind Open Body as a monthly web-based newsletter. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this global network! This website will remain a resource for new yoga students and teachers. All of the information from previous newsletters is archived on the "Resources" page.

Take care,

Kelly

Support for Yoga Teachers

Two updates to the list of organizations that offer grants for yoga teachers:

YogaEd offers free 2-day to 7-day teacher trainings (in Los Angeles) and a paid stipend ($200-600) to classroom teachers, PE teachers, and already certified/registered yoga teachers who agree to teach the YogaEd program in their hometowns for 3 months.

Visit http://www.accelerated.org/yogaed.php for applications and details.

Yoga basics awards $300-$600 teacher training scholarships on a competitive basis, but only members of its online community may apply. For more info, visit www.yogabasics.com and scroll down the home page. Scholarship recipients must be living in the U.S. and attend a Yoga Alliance registered training program in the U.S.

Awareness in Asana

Head Follows Heart. Connecting core strength to the movement of the heart helps us direct our attention and energy. The asanas (yoga poses) that can help you experience this idea are twists and backbends.

Inspiration for Yoga Students and Teachers

A transcript from a talk I gave to a women's group on the topic of "Finding Balance in Life." The talk focuses on balancing engagement and retreat, in yoga practice and in life.
