FRI 5:30-7:30PM
An Evening for Yoga Teachers
Yoga teachers are communicators, guides, and healers. This unique gathering includes a discussion of these three archetypes, and an inspiring yoga and meditation practice to help you connect to the qualities of each archetype. All mind-body and healing arts professionals are invited, as well as yoga students considering the path of teaching.

SAT 1-4 PM
The Yogic Warrior
True strength is the ability to experience and respond to the present moment, exactly as we are and exactly as life is. The yogic warrior practice develops a strong center and an open heart. In the physical body, this practice cultivates deep inner strength and dissolves outer tension. This practice also develops the attitude of lovingkindness and the courage to follow our convictions. This workshop is recommended for those with a regular vinyasa yoga practice.

SAT 5:30-7:30 PM
An Introduction to Mudra Vinyasa and Restorative Vinyasa
Mudra vinyasa unites the breath and gesture to cultivate specific intentions and emotions, such as compassion and inner strength. Restorative vinyasa is a deeply relaxing and nourishing practice based on mindful, breath-centered movement. This workshop is appropriate for all levels, including beginners.

SUN 1-4 PM
A Practice for Connection
The most powerful source of healing is a sense of connection - to community, to purpose, to spirit. This practice cultivates a sense of connection, through creative vinyasa, reflection, and intention. This workshop is appropriate for all levels.

It's A Tradition: New Year's Day Workshop at Avalon Yoga

January 1, 2006

Avalon Yoga, Palo Alto

$60 in advance, $75 at the door for both classes
$30 in advance, $40 at the door for one class

These are my favorite workshops of the year: an exploration of how yoga can change your life. This year, I'm teaching two complementary workshops - join me for one or both.

Change is inevitable - by learning to direct our energy, and accept the present moment, we can guide our self-transformation without abandoning self-compassion.

1:15-2:45 PM: Tapas: The Energy for Change
Tapas - "the purifying heat" - provides the energy for change in your life. This energy is always available to you - you simply need to tap into it. This vigorous New Year’s Day practice will help you access your inner tapas, through core strengthening, flowing vinyasa, and the breath. Identify what matters to you, and develop the inner heat, focus, and energy to pursue it with passion.

3-4:30 PM: Unconditional Self-Acceptance
One of the greatest barriers to happiness is the belief that there is something fundamentally wrong with us, and that we cannot (and should not) be happy until we fix it. Yoga teaches us that everything we want to be, and everything we want to feel, is already a possibility within us. Yoga helps us cultivate the seeds of possibility. This New Year’s Day Practice will focus on finding the joy and peace in every moment, through gentle vinyasa, deep opening, and restorative poses.

Thanksgiving Workshop: Cultivating Gratitude

Friday, November 25, 4:00-5:30 PM

Rains, Hacienda Commons, Stanford University

This workshop will be free and videotaped (as part of my new Live Workshop DVD series). Join me for a meditation and vinyasa yoga practice that focuses on cultivating gratitude for everything in our lives, including obstacles and opportunities.

Devotion, Courage, and Surrender

Saturday, October 15, 2005

1-4 PM

Avalon Yoga, Palo Alto

$55 in advance, $65 at the door

The ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles is grounded in three qualities: courage, devotion, and surrender. This vinyasa yoga workshop explores how we can embody these qualities, by working to develop what can seem like an “insurmountable” pose: hanumanasana (split pose). We'll use a wide range of approaches to explore this challenging pose, including working with gravity, support, and dynamic opposition. Through this practice, you'll cultivate the qualities necessary to approach any challenge in life.

Thank you to everyone who attended this workshop! Students chose to donate proceeds to Girl Ventures, a Bay Area organization that supports young women through outdoor adventure and expressive/creative arts.

The ability to achieve great things is grounded in two qualities: persistence and patience. Through a balance of effort and surrender, we can overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

One traditional yoga pose - hanumanasana - is named for the legendary figure who best embodied these qualities. This workshop explores how we can embody these qualities, by working to develop hanumanasana (split pose). We'll use a wide range of approaches to explore this challenging pose, including working with gravity, support, and dynamic opposition. Once you've expanded your reach in this pose, we'll play with how this opening allows us to effortlessly enter arm balances and inversions.

In this workshop, you'll cultivate the persistence and patience necessary to approach any challenge in life.
