Can Yoga  Improve Bone Density?

One of my yoga students (also a yoga teacher) showed me recent bone density scans that showed an improvement in spine and hip bone density over the last two years. She attributes much of this improvement to her commitment to a strengthening yoga practice. She gave me permission to post the medical reports on this web site.

She is 60 years old - an age at which women are expected to be rapidly losing bone density, not gaining bone density. You will see from her reports that she not only gained bone density, but her current bone density places her in the 98th (spine) and 86th  (hip) percentiles for women her age. This means that she has greater bone density than 98% and 86 % of women her age. Fantastic!
